Sugar Land to Host First Annual Memorial Day Ceremony

By Staff • on April 6, 2009

The City of Sugar Land’s first annual Memorial Day Ceremony in association with Fort Bend Salutes America will honor those who have shown bravery while serving their country.

The ceremony — planned for Monday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Sugar Land Memorial Park, 15300 University Blvd. — will include a benediction by various religious leaders, a 21 gun-salute, presentation of colors and other tributes.

In addition to the ceremony, educational and commemorative activities will fill the park, including a war artifact exhibition where families will have an opportunity to learn about the various histories of many different wars, a static display of military vehicles, a military jet flyover, donation booths and much more.

Patriotic pre-postage postcards will be available during the event for attendees to express their gratitude to current soldiers or veterans of choice, who are stationed across the world. As a token of appreciation from the City, silk flowers that will be originally showcased as a U.S. flag will be distributed as a lasting memory for people in attendance.
